“2nd Energy Efficiency Symposium” Attracts Close to 200 Green Building Enthusiasts at Los Angeles Department of Water and Power German Delegate
Companies Participate in More Than 100 B2B Meetings throughout Southern California
Los Angeles, CA, March 13, 2009: Eight German delegate companies travelled to Los Angeles Monday to participate in the “2nd Energy Efficiency Symposium” and the B2B meetings that were organized by the German American Chamber of Commerce Inc. (GACC), California Branch, as part of the Energy Efficiency Export Initiative supported by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology. Today the companies concluded the last of more than a 100 meetings that the GACC had organized for them for the week. 45 of those meetings took place during the day and evening of the “2nd Energy Efficiency Symposium.”
The “2nd Energy Efficiency Symposium – Insights into German and American Green Building,” attended by close to 200 guests involved in energy efficiency and green building, took place at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) on Tuesday, March 10th. Thomas Spiegelhalter, Professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California (USC), led attendees through the day. Presentations included expert talks about the newest technologies and government policies designed to encourage energy efficient construction on both sides of the Atlantic. Highlights included an update of the U.S. LEED system by Lance Williams, Managing Director of the USGBC L.A. and a presentation on new concepts to achieve higher energy efficiency in buildings by Andreas Wagner, Professor of Building Physics at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
The German Consulate General in Los Angeles, welcoming the first event of the German Energy Efficiency Export Initiative in their region, was pleased with the results of the symposium, noting: “The feedback from architects, engineers and representatives from the public sector has been very positive.” The day concluded with a high level networking reception at the Walt Disney Music Center that presented opportunities to continue the days’ discussions. “We are happy about the great response to this event and hope to continue to utilize the great synergies from German Californian cooperation in energy efficiency,” said Johannes Buchholz, Managing Director of the GACC California Branch, in response to frequent inquiries about the Export Initiative by interested attendees.
